05 Oct Ohio DOT enhances permit system to improve turnaround times on superload permits
OHPS will soon undergo a system update to add the ability to bypass bridge study review on superloads that are 225,000lbs or more that have been previously approved. Not only will the bridge study be bypassed, but the permit will self-issue.
Bridge studies approved in the last 30 days can be referenced if the route, axle spacings, and length are the exact same. The weight must be equal to or less than the bridge study referenced, this includes both gross weight and axle weights. All bridge restrictions and conditions from the previous bridge study will carry over to the new permit.
Allowing bridge studies to be applied to new applications will improve turnaround time on superloads, decreasing the number of applications that require extensive review by the permit staff.
