20 May Final Rule on Hours of Service
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) released last week that they have revised the hours of service regulations. While the revision did not address all the concerns of Specialized Carriers it is a step in the right direction. The new hours of service rule will be in effect 120 days after publication in the Federal Register.
Below are a few of the most notable revisions, to view the Hours of Service Drivers Final Rule in its entirety visit the FMCSA webpage https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/hours-service/hours-service-drivers-final-rule
- 30-minute break after 8-hrs of drive time instead of the 8-hrs of on-duty time, which will allow the driver to satisfy the break requirement while still on duty.
- Drivers can now split their 10-hrs required off duty time into either an 8/2 split or a 7/3 split without counting against the 14-hr driving window.
