Frost Law Restrictions

Frost laws, or seasonal weight restrictions, are implemented during the spring thaw to protect roads from damage caused by the combination of melting frost and water in the ground. When the ground begins to thaw, the soil can become soft and unstable, making roads more vulnerable to damage from heavy vehicles. By limiting the weight and sometimes the speed of vehicles during this period, frost laws help prolong the lifespan of the road infrastructure, and reduce costly repairs.
