Wyoming Permitting System

The Wyoming Highway Patrol – Commercial Carrier Office has announced the go live date for the Wyoming Electronic Permitting System (WYDOT EPS) will be October 1st, 2024. Currently, carriers receive an authorization number before entering Wyoming, which gives permission to move to a port of entry for their permit. Starting October 1st carriers will no longer receive an authorization number, Permit America will be able to procure and issue the permit via WYDOT EPS!

Permit America had the opportunity for a quick Q&A with Troy (Wyoming Highway Patrol Quality Control Analyst, Overweight Loads Supervisor) earlier this week as well as attend a training session Thursday afternoon. Several permit types will be available in the system including but not limited to OD/OW, Superload, IFTA and IRP.  While most permit types will self-issue including routine OD/OW, IFTA and IRP there are a few that will require office review. Permits that require office review are anticipated to be issued within a few hours, Superload permits depending on the need for bridge analysis or scheduling could take up to 72hrs for issuance.

We have highlighted a brief overview of key items that carriers need to know concerning WYDOT EPS.

  • Carriers will be verified through CVIEW.
  • Applications requiring a route survey must be entered into WYDOT EPS, the system will analyze the route for known restrictions and generate a survey.
    • The carrier must sign the survey attesting that the route is acceptable.
  • Permits may be displayed electronically, there are no screen size limits if the permit is clearly visible.
  • Permit payment will be made electronically prior to the permit PDF generating.
  • All permit fees remain the same; there will be a credit card transaction fee added.
    • Credit card is the only payment option.
  • Carriers will still be required to stop at the nearest port if their route is within 5 miles of a port.
    • WYDOT EPS routing system will automatically add a stop off to the nearest port (if within 5 miles).
  • Bridge analysis is nonrefundable.
  • Wyoming Authority Docket Number is required for intrastate travel.
  • Carriers enrolled in the Wyoming Self-Issue Permit Program will have a 1-year transition period to become acclimated to the new system.

As always Permit America is committed to playing an active role in the Specialized Transportation industry to better serve our customers.  If you have any questions on the information shared, questions on permitting in general or our services, please contact us.

Unrelated to the implementation of the new permitting system, but equally important is an upcoming session discussing size and weight limitations in Wyoming. In accordance with W.S. 16-3-103 Motor Carrier Section, Chapter 5, Size and Weight Limitations of Vehicles, WYDOT will hold a public hearing to receive comments on Size and Weight on October 1st, 2024, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm MT at the Wyoming Department of Transportation. If you are unable to attend in person you may attend via Zoom
