Pertinent CVSA 2025 Road-Check Information

The 2025 international road-check will soon be upon us.   This road-check, or ‘safety blitz’,  is initiated by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA).  The CVSA is a non-profit organization and works closely with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) to accomplish the main goal of ‘improving and ensuring the safety of all motorists traveling on international highways.’  The inspectors, in most cases, will carry out standard Level 1 (37 point) inspections (CVSA Inspection Levels), but this year there will be a focus on Tires and Hours of Service regulations during their inspections, some of the key components for each is listed below.

2025 Road-check 2 Main Focal Points:

Tire Inspection:

  • Low tread depth
  • Audible air leaks
  • Flat tires
  • Belt material or casing ply exposed in the tread or sidewall
  • Tread or sidewall separation
  • Bulges in the sidewall
  • Improper repairs, such as rubber-coated plugs in the sidewall
  • Items lodged between dual tires

False Records of Duty Status (RODS):

Failure to record, complete, or retain the log — or knowingly falsifying logs and/or other related reports — is an out-of-service (OOS) violation, which requires the inspector to place the driver out of service, restricting that driver from operating their vehicle until the violation has been addressed.

Attached is the CVSA driver ‘cheat-sheet’.  This is a quick reference guide on what you can expect should a DOT officer target you for an inspection:  Cheat Sheet.
