12 Sep Wreaths Across America

I was very fortunate to have had a recent conversation with David Haas to discuss his involvement with Wreaths Across America (WAA), as well as with Courtney George, the Transportation Director of this non-profit organization that unofficially began in 1992.

David is an Owner Operator based in Westfield, MA and this will be his 3rd year volunteering his services to WAA.  His pickup will take place at the National Wreaths Across America facility in Columbia Falls, ME.  David’s load will consist of approximately 5500-6500 wreaths secured on a number of pallets.  They are loaded into his van trailer to begin the journey to various cemeteries (about 8 stops) throughout Massachusetts.  These cemeteries are only a few of many throughout the country that serve as the final resting place for veterans.  The wreaths will be carefully placed on individual gravesites in a beautiful, commemorative ceremony that will take place at cemeteries across the country at Noon EST on December 13th.  From pickup to delivery, it takes David about 3 days total to accomplish this dutiful task.

According to Courtney, the delivery effort will begin the 1st week in December and is supported by approximately 800 extremely generous truck drivers that dedicate their personal time to assist in the effort.  “Without these dedicated drivers, our mission would not be able to be accomplished”.   The mission is to commemorate past Veterans’ services, recognize current servicemen and servicewomen, as well bring awareness to the general public about all the great people that sacrifice their time, and sometimes their lives, for our great nation.  The organization has another goal of being able to deliver their wreaths to commemorative gravesites in Belgium, Luxembourg and Normandy to honor our fallen U.S. WW2 Veterans.   Courtney, and Wreaths Across America, are always looking for volunteers that would be willing to participate in this phenomenal organization.  If you have the ability to volunteer, or have any questions, email her at cgeorge@wreathsacrossamerica.com, or call at 877-385-9504.
